First things first.
If you believe your dress requires an alteration, you must notify us within 28 days of delivery or collection by submitting an alterations request. Once our team has reviewed the information supplied, we will advise you of the next steps and, where appropriate, provide return instructions.
The process
How it works
Following each step gives our team the information we need to assess your dress properly and offer the quickest possible solution.
Try it on correctly
Step into the dress rather than pulling it over your head. Pull it fully into position — fitted silhouettes may need a little jiggle — and make sure the waist seam is sitting on your waist and the side seams are running directly down each side of your body. Adjust the top until comfortable before assessing the fit.
Check your aftercare brochure
Locate the aftercare brochure emailed to you, showing the confirmed design, measurements and customisations agreed for your dress. Re-measure yourself and compare today's measurements with those originally submitted.
Send everything
If you still require assistance, start an alterations request and provide all requested measurements, photographs, videos and details. Complete information helps us investigate your concern properly.
We review it
We assess the request, establish what alteration is feasible and confirm any applicable cost and timeframe. The more information you provide, the faster we can investigate and recommend a solution.
Approve & proceed
Once we have reviewed your measurements and imagery, we will discuss the next steps with you and arrange payment where applicable before any alteration work begins.
Before contacting us
Re-measure first.
If you believe there is an issue with the fit, please re-measure immediately and compare the results with the confirmed measurements shown in your aftercare brochure.

These measurements must be included with your alterations request. We require them as part of our initial investigation and cannot accurately assess a fit concern without them.

How does the alterations process work?
If you believe there is an issue with your dress, your first step is to re-measure yourself and compare your current measurements against the measurements shown in your emailed aftercare brochure.
Please re-measure your bust, waist, hips, bum and shoulder-to-floor measurement while wearing the intended shoes.
These measurements must be included with your alterations request because we require them to carry out our initial investigation.
Please also supply clear photographs and/or videos. Wear your intended shoes, stand in good lighting, show the relevant area and provide multiple angles where helpful.
Once the complete information has been submitted, please allow up to 48 working hours for assessment. We will review the information carefully and advise you of the next steps.
The length is fine but I don’t want the small train. Can you remove it?
Yes. We can remove the small puddle train at the back of the dress which comes with our gowns as standard.
Cost: £25How long do I have to notify you about an alteration?
An alteration must be received back at our studio within 28 days of confirmed delivery of your order for us to carry out the work. We operate a rolling 28-day alterations allocation for every order.
We understand that life can be busy and that you may not see every bridesmaid immediately after delivery. We therefore strongly recommend planning a try-on session with your bridesmaids within approximately the first week after receiving the order.
Once the 28-day window has passed, we cannot make exceptions to late alterations. Where this happens, a local alterations specialist may be able to assist you.
I measured shoulder-to-floor without my shoes and my dress is too short. What can I do?
Our instructions require the shoulder-to-floor measurement to be taken while wearing the shoes or heel height intended for the wedding.
If your dress has been made to the length confirmed on your order but that length is now too short when worn with your chosen shoes, you can consider wearing a flatter shoe.
Alternatively, if you would like a longer skirt made, we can purchase additional fabric and produce a replacement skirt.
Replacement skirt: from £95We deliberately requested the dress longer and it now needs taking up. What happens?
If the dress has been produced to the length confirmed on your order and you subsequently decide that it is too long, we can shorten the dress for you.
Production cost: from £25My bridesmaid has lost a considerable amount of weight and her dress is now too big. What can be done?
Where current measurements have reduced considerably below the measurements the dress was handmade for, the gown may require a substantial rework.
We can carry out this type of alteration; however, we require at least two weeks to complete more extensive resizing work.
Cost: from £95I have found out I’m pregnant after my measurements were confirmed. What can I do?
Every dress is made-to-measure using the measurements supplied and approved at the time of ordering. Once measurements have been confirmed and your order has entered production, your dress is created specifically to those agreed measurements.
We are therefore unable to take responsibility for changes in body shape occurring afterwards, including pregnancy, and dresses cannot be resized or remade free of charge because of personal circumstances arising after measurement confirmation.
We completely understand that circumstances can change unexpectedly and we will always try to support you where possible. Any required adjustments, remakes or additional dresses due to pregnancy or another later change in body shape would, however, be chargeable.
If you believe your body shape may change, we strongly recommend discussing this with us before ordering so that our team can provide guidance. The final choices relating to measurements and sizing remain the customer's responsibility.
It has been more than 28 days since delivery. Why can you no longer accept my alteration?
To provide a fair, efficient and reliable alterations service, alteration requests must be made within 28 days of an order being delivered or collected.
Bridesmaid by JB is a made-to-measure business. The same skilled production team responsible for handmaking your dresses also carries out our alterations. Alterations therefore operate alongside our production schedule and within carefully controlled weekly capacity.
We allocate a rolling 28-day alterations allowance to every order from the point at which delivery or collection is confirmed. This gives us capacity to investigate, schedule and complete eligible alterations while protecting the production commitments already made to other customers.
Once those 28 days have passed, the capacity reserved for that order is released and reallocated to newly delivered orders and ongoing production.
The deadline is therefore based on our available production capacity rather than the perceived size or complexity of an alteration. Applying the same deadline consistently enables us to treat every bridal party fairly.
As a specialist small-batch made-to-measure business, even one additional day of production capacity can affect our carefully planned schedule. Extending the deadline for one order would reduce the capacity available to customers who contacted us within their allocated period.
For this reason, requests received outside the 28-day period, including those received only shortly after the deadline, cannot be accepted under our alterations policy.
If you believe your dress requires an alteration, please submit your complete request within 28 days of delivery or collection. Following review, we will advise you of the next steps and provide return instructions where appropriate.
