FAQs
Measurements & Fit – FAQ
1) When do measurements need to be submitted?
All orders and complete measurements must be submitted 22 weeks before the wedding date. We cannot begin production until every bridesmaid’s measurements for the order are confirmed.
2) Who is responsible for measurements?
You are. We provide clear guides and support, but final measurements and size selections are the client’s responsibility. Please measure carefully, follow our guide, and consider any likely changes before the wedding (weight change, pregnancy, surgery, training, medications, etc.) Or if you are being measured in our showroom by us please check the measurements we take to ensure you are happy with them.
3) Do your fabrics have stretch?
Yes. Our core fabrics are extremely forgiving with natural stretch, which allows a small tolerance for minor fluctuations. This is not a substitute for accurate measurements or later size changes.
4) What if I lose or gain weight after I submit measurements?
Bridesmaid by JB accepts no liability for fit issues resulting from weight loss, weight gain, or body composition changes after measurements are confirmed. Any alterations required as a result are chargeable and/or should be completed locally at your own cost.
5) I’m planning/undergoing weight-loss (including GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro / Ozempic). What should I do?
If you are using, planning to use, or recently stopped GLP-1 weight-loss medications (e.g., tirzepatide/Mounjaro, semaglutide/Ozempic/Wegovy) or any programme likely to change your size:
- Please tell us at the time of ordering and when submitting measurements.
- Choose measurements as close to the 22-week deadline as possible, once your size is stable.
- Understand that significant change after submission will require chargeable alterations.
We cannot hold responsibility for fit where body size changes after measurements are confirmed.
(We can’t offer medical advice; please speak to your clinician about safe timing and stabilisation.)
6) Can I submit smaller measurements “to be safe”?
No. Submitting smaller-than-actual measurements in the hope the dress will “stretch” will lead to poor fit. Provide true, current body measurements. Dresses are cut to your body and the style’s built-in ease allowance.
8) Can I re-submit measurements after the deadline?
No. Once the order is locked and production begins, specific patterns are drafted per clients measurements so we cannot accept new measurements. Late submissions or changes may mean we cannot proceed with production. Your order will be terminated and a full refund issued
9) Who should take the measurements?
Use a soft tape and follow our guide. We recommend:
- Having a second person measure you
- Measuring over minimal clothing
- Recording to the nearest 1/2″
You may also book our complimentary showroom measure up service if you have a paid order in place, please book directly online. We cannot accept liability for home-taken measurements that prove inaccurate. We are here to support you if you need help with following our guide on our website while measuring at home.
10) Heel height & dress length: what do you need?
Please confirm the exact heel height you’ll wear. Provide:
- Shoulder-to-floor (while stood in your heels), and
- Your heel height (we’ll account for it),
- Or provide Waist-to-floor + Shoulder-to-waist for extra accuracy.
Length that proves too long/short due to heel changes or measuring inacurately will be chargeable to alter.
11) Sleeves & bicep fit
If your design includes sleeves, we require an accurate bicep circumference at the fullest point. If your bicep increases after submission, alterations are chargeable.
12) Pregnancy, post-partum, surgery & training
Please let us know at the time of order if you are:
- Pregnant or planning pregnancy
- Post-partum and expecting body changes
- Undergoing surgery
- Beginning intensive training
We will advise on what we suggest for you sizing wise including pregnancy ruching capabilities if pregnant at the time of the wedding, but client-led size changes after submission are at your risk and alterations are chargeable. Sizing / measurement choice is the clients responsibility
13) Can I choose a standard size instead of made-to-measure?
Yes, but fit is your responsibility. Use our size chart and pick based on bust, waist, hip and bumand decide on XSMALL, SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE & XLARGE - you can see from the sizing chart how stretchy our designs are with the multiple measurements covered in each of our sample size Standard sizes may still require local tweaks which are not included.
14) What does “made-to-order” and "stretch allowance" mean?
We draft individual patterns to the body measurements of your bridesmaids and include stretch allowance (the professional allowance needed so the garment has the compression fit that we are known and adored for). It’s part of the pattern engineering of the garment, the flat lay measurements will appear smaller than when on the body due to the stretch allowance once the dress is being worn.
15) What if an error is on your side?
If our workmanship is at fault (e.g., a construction error), we will repair or replace in line with our policy. We reserve the right to inspect the garment before agreeing remedy. This does not cover client-led measurement changes or incorrect submissions.
16) Alterations – what’s included?
Alterations are not included unless specifically stated in your order. Any alterations requested due to weight change, heel changes, measurement errors, or preference changes are chargeable and may be recommended locally to meet timelines. Alterations are only provided free of chargeif a verified production or workmanship error has occurred on our part.
17) Children’s & juniors’ measurements
For children, growth is expected. Please check our sizing chart for our childrens measurements and decide on which size you would like your dress making to for them, account for potential growth. Any unacounted for growth spurts requiring adjustment is chargeable.
18) Who can contact you about measurements?
For data protection and order accuracy, we can only communicate with the booking client / email on the order. We’re unable to discuss order details with third parties.
Measurement & Fit Responsibility
We design and hand-make each gown to the measurements you provide. While our fabrics offer gentle stretch, Bridesmaid by JB is not liable for fit issues arising from weight change, body composition change, heel changes, or inaccurate/late measurements after submission.
