Step into the dress and gently settle the waist, shoulders and side seams into their natural position.

Take the same measurements shown in your Aftercare Brochure so we can compare them with those used for production.

Your dress is handmade using the measurements confirmed for production. Bodies can naturally change between measuring and delivery through weight fluctuation, pregnancy, growth, hormones or everyday changes.
Sometimes a dress fits as intended but you would personally prefer an area closer, looser, shorter or positioned differently. All of these things can be assessed through aftercare.
Why alterations are skilled work
Because every Bridesmaid by JB dress is handmade, an alteration can involve opening the original construction, reshaping or re-cutting an area, rebuilding it and professionally finishing the garment again.

What can be altered?
What is possible depends on the individual design, construction, stretch allowance, seam allowance and amount of change required. Our team will assess your dress and explain what is realistically achievable.

If an alteration is chargeable, pricing reflects the construction work required rather than simply the number of inches being changed.
Even an adjustment that looks small from the outside can require a handmade dress to be partially deconstructed, reshaped, rebuilt and professionally finished.
A hem is a good example.
Shortening a dress may involve separating part of the skirt, recalculating the finished length, re-cutting and balancing the shape, rebuilding the construction and professionally finishing the garment again.

Why do I need to re-measure when I was professionally measured by you?
Your dress was handcrafted from the measurements confirmed for production, which may have been taken several months before delivery. Comparing today's measurements with the originals helps us understand what may have changed and what the dress needs now.
Can every dress be altered?
Most dresses can be adjusted to some extent, but every alteration has technical limits. Design lines, fabric, stretch allowance, seam allowance and the amount of change required all matter.
If altering the original garment would compromise the dress, we'll discuss whether a partial or full replacement would be the safer solution.
Can my dress be made bigger?
Our standard seam allowance forms part of the garment's construction rather than being spare fabric intended to increase the finished size. If an area needs to become materially larger than the measurements the dress was made to, a replacement section or replacement dress may be the safest option.

What is seam allowance?
Seam allowance is the fabric sitting inside a garment beyond the visible stitch line. Every Bridesmaid by JB dress includes a ½-inch seam allowance as part of its original construction.
It is required to professionally join the pattern pieces and shouldn't be thought of as spare fabric designed to increase the finished size of the dress.
What is stretch allowance?
Our premium scuba crepe is a stretch fabric. In fitted areas, patterns are intentionally engineered smaller than the body measurements so the fabric can stretch gently onto the body and create the intended silhouette.
Depending on the design and area of the garment, this may be approximately 2–4 inches. This is why a finished dress measured flat can appear smaller than the body measurements it was made for. The garment is designed to fit when worn, not to match the body measurement when laid flat.
What if I lose weight after confirming my measurements?
If your body becomes smaller after your measurements are confirmed, the dress may need to be taken in. Changes don't always happen evenly across the bust, waist and hips, so we'll assess your current measurements and dress together before recommending what is required.
What if I expect continued weight loss?
If you expect your measurements to continue changing, tell us as early as possible. This helps us understand your timeline and guide you on the most appropriate point to assess the final fit where possible.
What happens if I become pregnant?
Congratulations! Please tell us as soon as you know the pregnancy may affect the fit of your dress. Pregnancy can change the bust, ribcage, waist, hips and abdomen differently for every person.
Depending on the design, timing and measurements, options may include a skirt replacement, pregnancy ruching or a replacement dress. We'll talk you through the most practical route for your individual order.
What about growing junior bridesmaids or flower girls?
Children can grow quickly and unpredictably. Their dresses are made using the measurements confirmed for production, so a later growth adjustment may occasionally be required.
If you have concerns about the fit after the dress arrives, send us the child's current measurements and photographs so we can assess the available options.
Why does shoe height matter?
Your shoulder-to-floor measurement is taken in your chosen heel height, so changing your shoes changes where the finished hem meets the floor. Always assess the length wearing the same heel height used when your length was confirmed.
Why does underwear matter?
Underwear can change how the body sits beneath the dress. Bras can alter bust position, shapewear can change the waist and hips, and structured underwear can affect upper-body fit. Assess your dress wearing what you intend to wear at the wedding.
Can somebody else alter my dress?
Yes. The choice is always yours. We simply recommend contacting us before irreversible work is carried out so we have the opportunity to assess the original garment first.
If you choose an independent seamstress, select somebody experienced in bridal or occasionwear. Once another person has cut, altered or unpicked the garment, responsibility for that alteration work rests with the person carrying it out.
Can alterations completely change the style of my dress?
Some style refinements may be possible, but changing the fundamental design of a finished garment is different from a standard alteration. A new neckline, rebuilt bodice or substantially different silhouette may become bespoke reconstruction and will be assessed and priced accordingly.
How should I store my dress?
Keep your dress clean, dry and protected, ideally hanging in its garment bag away from direct sunlight, damp, pets, strong odours and anything that could snag the fabric.
Can I steam or iron my dress?
Our fabrics can be carefully steamed and ironed, but heat should always be used cautiously. Avoid prolonged direct heat and take particular care with handheld steamers, which can occasionally spit water and leave marks.
Allow plenty of time rather than doing this in a rush on the wedding morning.
What should I do if I am travelling abroad with my dress?
Transport the dress in a protective bag and avoid tightly compressing it for long periods. Where practical, carry it with you rather than placing it in checked luggage.
When you arrive, hang the dress somewhere safe and give the fabric time to relax before any gentle steaming is needed.
What should I check before the wedding day?
- Try the dress on with your intended shoes and underwear.
- Make sure you're happy with the final fit and length.
- Raise aftercare concerns within the applicable 28-day window.
- Store the dress safely after the final fitting.
- Allow plenty of time for gentle steaming or pressing if needed.
