Frequently asked questions

Have questions? We’re here to help

Are alterations free?

Alterations are only free if we have made an error in production. In those rare cases, we will happily correct the issue at no cost.

Outside of this, alterations are not included in the price of your dress. Because of the nature of our fabrics and the fact that each dress is made to your individual measurements, most bridesmaids require very minimal tweaks, and many need none at all.

We do offer an optional, chargeable in-house alterations service, but many clients prefer to use a trusted local seamstress for convenience and flexible fitting times.

If you’d like guidance on what alterations might be needed or when to book them, our team is always happy to help - alterations@bridesmaidbyjb.com

How does the alterations process work?

Having an issue with your dress?

If you believe there is a problem with the fit, the first step is to re-measure yourself immediately. Please provide the following measurements in inches:

Bust

Waist

Hips

Bum

Shoulder to floor (in heels)

You can follow our step-by-step measuring guide here:

https://www.bridesmaidbyjb.com/pages/measuring-guide

These measurements must be included in your first message. We require them to carry out our initial investigation and accurately assess your concerns. We are unable to review your query without this information.

Photos & Videos

We strongly encourage you to take clear photos and/or videos of yourself in the dress as soon as you receive it, especially if you have something you’d like us to look at.

Here’s what to do:

Try your dress on as soon as it arrives

Most customers find their dress is perfect, but if something doesn’t feel right, please continue with the steps below.

- Take clear photos/videos

- Stand in good lighting

- Wear the shoes you intend to wear with the dress

- Focus on the specific area(s) of concern

- If sending a video, please speak to the camera and explain what you’d like us to review

- Include multiple angles

Front, side and back if needed, this helps us understand how the dress is fitting your body.

We're here to help, and providing clear images and measurements allows us to support you quickly and accurately.

The length of my dress is absolutely fine but I don't want the small train that has come with it, can I have this removed?

Yes we can remove the small puddle train at the back of the bottom of your dress that comes with all gowns as standard, the fee of this is £25

How long do I have to notify you of any alterations after I have received my bridesmaid order?

We must receive an alteration back at the studio within 28 days of the confirmed delivery of an order in order to carry out any work on a dress. Thereafter we are not able to complete an alteration as we have a rolling 28 day alteration allocation for all orders. If you are not able to get an alteration back to us within this timeframe, any local alterations specialist will be able to help you with your dress(es). We completely understand that life can be busy and you may not see all your bridesmaids as soon as your order is delivered but we can not make any exceptions to late arrivals of alterations past the 28 days of confirmed delivery, we are a small team and we can't be stretched more than we are capable of. We ask you to pre-plan for a week or so after the planned delivery of your order to have a try on session with your bridesmaids if you can.

I know the instructions say to measure while stood in your shoes/heels but I did my measurement from my shoulder to my floor with no shoes on and my dress is too short, what do I do?

In this instance if the dress has been made to the length that we have on your order form and you believe this is too short for you, you would need to either consider wearing a flat shoe with your dress per the length measured or if you would like a new longer dress making you would need to pay for a replacement skirt. We can purchase more fabric and make a new longer skirt for you

Total Cost - £95 for the fabric & production costs

What happens if we requested/measured the length of the dress to be longer than the bridesmaid's actual shoulder to floor measurement and it needs taking up?

In this instance if the dress has been made to the length that we have on your order form and you decide this is actually far too long, and you wish to send it back to us to shorten the dress:

Total Cost - £25 for the production costs
